WHO alarmed at “bird flu cluster”

The World Health Organization expressed concern at a group of 7 family members who died on Sumatra from bird flu, the BBC reports. Reportedly there is no infected poultry nearby, renewing fears that the virus could spread among humans. WHO officials were quick to reassure that there was no evidence of a mutated virus.

“[This] is probably the most worrying incident so far since bird flu started nearly three years ago and we can’t find any obvious source of infection. We can find no sign of infected chickens; no sign of the virus in the environment around where they live,” [Mr. Cordingley] said.

Personally, I am not at all afraid of bird flu - I don’t intend to snuggle up to any chicken.
